WEST UNIVERSITY’S NEIGHBORHOOD BAR  –WEST UNIVERSITY’S NEIGHBORHOOD BAR  –

The Marquis II was established in 1945 at its original location on Shepard and West Gray. Despite undergoing numerous changes and relocations over the years, The Marquis II has always remained true to its identity as a neighborhood bar. Now located in the heart of Houston’s West University, it is an ideal spot to watch the game or enjoy a great happy hour after a long day. We offer a variety of craft beers and specialty cocktails, but people from all over come for one thing: the Texas Tea.

With 13 different flavors, the Texas Tea has been our signature drink for over five decades. Whether you’re a Houston local or just passing through, having a Texas Tea at The Marquis II is a must.

The Marquis II began in the affluent River Oaks neighborhood as Marquis. After the original owner’s passing in the late 1960s, two cocktail waitresses who worked there bought the bar, fulfilling their dream of ownership. They renamed it The Marquis II and relocated it to Bissonnet and Buffalo Speedway, later moving again to Bissonnet and Weslayan, before settling at our current West University location in 1985.

Our current building, constructed in the 1950s and designed by Lars Bang, originally housed The Big Donut, a California drive-thru donut chain. In the 1970s, it became The Bunny Club, a gentlemen’s establishment, until a fire in the early 1980s closed its doors. The Marquis II moved in 1985 and has called it home ever since. During a 2011 remodel, a glass painting from The Bunny Club, discovered behind a wall, was restored despite its charred state and now proudly hangs on our wall.
